<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">When I was buying it I never expected it to turn out what it did! This book went way beyond my assumption. Initially, I thought it would be a fat volume that would include comedy, which it did include, and was meant for book worms. The fact turned out to be that, the book was meant to turn normal children into book worms. What I mean by this strange sentence of mine is that this book with seven chapters is meant to be read by children and get them interested into reading. More than 3\4th of this copy includes coloured illustrations by Sunaina Coelho. Ruskin Bond's imaginations know no bounds when he is wrinting for children. He brings in seven intriguing strories narrated by Jim Corbett's <i>Khansama</i>(cook), Mehmoud, who describes his experiences and encounters with animals of all sorts while preparing the tasty lamb chops for young Ruskin. I loved the fact that the sub-title on the cover page is 'Tall Tales by Jim Corbett's <i>Khansama</i>', not short tales.<br />Tussling with a cobra to hairy demons under the pillow, being carried away by a <i>muggermuch</i>(crocodile) to hunting down a cheetah, being blown by a wild boar to tackling a hungry man eating tiger; the stories urge it's readers to give a thought to the possibility of events.<br />The very thought of the aromas of delicious food floating by Mehmoud's kitchen with his voice humming an enchanting tale bring both, water to my mouth and anxiety in my mind. So, join me to this world of <i>Carpet sahib's</i> (Mehmoud's way of referring to Jim Corbett) company and Runskin's transfixing imaginations. Rusty and the Leopard

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">This review is written by me after a long time (really long). As usual, Ruskin Bond's mesmerizing, but completely simple form of writing has excited me once again.<br /><br />As the name suggests, you might think that the story revolves around a leopard, but you are completely wrong if you think so! I believe, the first appearance of a leopard was in the last quarter of the book. This is the third book in the 'Rusty' series, and I found it more interesting than the previous versions, as Rusty, the protagonist becomes a lot matured in this book, and he meets a lot of new people to set a life of his own. I felt that 'Rusty's Life' or 'The Adventures of Rusty' as a name for this book would sound appropriate.<br /><br />At the time when Rusty spends his life on the roof, Mr and Mrs Kapoor go out on some work, and Rusty is sent off the house. Rusty meets many new people, and befriends them (some of them were thieves). He always dreams of becoming a writer and goes to England, or perhaps Australia, America, etc.<br /><br />Read this book to find out how will Rusty's fate take shape, and what will happen at the end. Their son, Kishen is taken away by his father who later marry's another woman. However, he escapes and becomes a thief.<br />Rusty remains homeless and wanders many places, including Hardiwar, where he finds Kishen and both of them return to Dehra.<br />They find an other friend, and three of them spend their nights in an abandoned church. Meanwhile, Rusty discovers an old man, who seems to be a friend of his father; and an old woman who has some of Rusty's Father's books (Including the first edition of <i>Alice In Wonderland</i> which he decides to sell)<br />Rusty then decides to go to England, and does as he wishes. The story ends when he gets seated in the train.</div>

Rusty Runs Away

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">It is really a wonderful book, and can also be called as 'Rusty-2', followed by 'Rusty, the boy from the hills' (I did not read the first one). Rusty enters teenage in this book, and he loses his father and grandparents, whom he loved the most. He is not fond of his mother as his father and mother were separated very early after Rusty was born. He grew up with his father, but after he passed away, was sent to a cruel guardian. Due to some reasons, he will be sent to a boarding school, from which he tries to make an escape with his friend Daljit. However, he himself returns back to the school with his friend and soon both of them get rusticated. I would not like to tell the reader of this the whole story, but if you want to know what happened next, then read what is written below the image. He is restricted to meet any Indians and go to the <i>Indian Bazaar</i>, but he somehow manages to and makes some friends who persuade him to play <i>Holi</i>, the festival of colours. He is then beated by his guardian for ignoring his orders and then he fights and hurts his guardian badly. Then he turns homeless, but a friend offers him shelter, and he gets a job as an English tutor.</div></div>

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><span style="font-family: inherit;">This can be the greatest feast for all young Ruskin Bond fans with lots of juicy short stories. Though the language doesn't improve much of your vocabulary but the  vivid writing must be noted. At his sixties too the prolific writer, Ruskin Bond continues writing in his typical style,  keeping pace with the generation and entertaining millions. Exellently illustrated, this collection of short stories are few amongst the best of this popular writer's works. It includes the famous <u>Grand father's private  zoo</u>, a favourite among little children and <u>Dust on the mountains,</u> a recent outlet but a lovely one.
