Rusty and the Leopard

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">This review is written by me after a long time (really long). As usual, Ruskin Bond's mesmerizing, but completely simple form of writing has excited me once again. As the name suggests, you might think that the story revolves around a leopard, but you are completely wrong if you think so! I believe, the first appearance of a leopard was in the last quarter of the book. This is the third book in the 'Rusty' series, and I found it more interesting than the previous versions, as Rusty, the protagonist becomes a lot matured in this book, and he meets a lot of new people to set a life of his own. I felt that 'Rusty's Life' or 'The Adventures of Rusty' as a name for this book would sound appropriate. At the time when Rusty spends his life on the roof, Mr and Mrs Kapoor go out on some work, and Rusty is sent off the house. Rusty meets many new people, and befriends them (some of them were thieves). He always dreams of becoming a writer and goes to England, or perhaps Australia, America, etc. Read this book to find out how will Rusty's fate take shape, and what will happen at the end. Mrs. Kapoor dies in a car accident after she goes with Mr. Kapoor. Their son, Kishen is taken away by his father who later marry's another woman. However, he escapes and becomes a thief. Rusty remains homeless and wanders many places, including Hardiwar, where he finds Kishen and both of them return to Dehra. They find an other friend, and three of them spend their nights in an abandoned church. Meanwhile, Rusty discovers an old man, who seems to be a friend of his father; and an old woman who has some of Rusty's Father's books (Including the first edition of Alice In Wonderland which he decides to sell) Rusty then decides to go to England, and does as he wishes. The story ends when he gets seated in the train.</div>

The Jungle Book

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">I was 11 years when I read this book. You may ask me how did  I understand the story at that age. Well, I can tell that, the words used by the author were very simple. He is Rudyard Kipling. He is one of my favourite authors. His style of writing is so simple and understandable.   The book is about a young boy, whose name is Mowgli. A tiger named Sher khan catches Mowgli and tries to eat him. All animals in the jungle are afraid of Sher Khan. He is a man-eater. A wolf family helps Mowgli and they also take care of him now. Mowgli’s best friends are Baloo, the sleepy bear, and Bagheera, the black panther. They help Mowgli in every situation. But the time comes, when Mowgli should go away, because Sher Khan would like to come back to kill Mowgli. So Mowgli goes to a village to learn the people’s language and their life style. A wolf tells Mowgli this and Mowgli makes a plan to kill the terrible tiger. Mowgli is able to kill him. Then he goes back to the jungle, because the village people thought that Mowgli was bad and naughty. When mother wolf hears that Mowgli has killed the terrible tiger she feels happy. Mowgli is very glad to be in the jungle and he lives there for the rest of his life. My opinion: this story is full of drama, and I think that it is a very good story for younger people. The story shows how life in the jungle could be. <div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><div style="text-align: left;">Sudha Murty is a prolific Indian writer whose works revolve around society and how we can improve it. This book by her is no different. She conveys her messages to all her readers through a very simple but vivid style of writing. There is a swift flow in all the 23 stories in this book with their arrangement/placing done in a very thoughtful manner. The lessons that are revealed from her experiences are very beautiful. For example, one of the stories in this book named "Ganga's ghat" teaches us to carry out social service within our limits and the story "Genes" educates us with the message that we must develop a good value-system as value-systems do not pass from parents to children. A good amount of curiosity generates in the readers while reading the passages.
